The municipality of Villanueva de la Vera covers an area of 132 km². The highest altitude is 2266 m, in Casquero de Peones (on the border with Navalonguilla) and the lowest elevation is 260 m at the river Tiétar. Therefore, the difference in altitude found in the municipality is 2006 m. The locality is situated at an altitude of 497 m above sea level.

This unevenness is undoubtedly the reason for the large number of waterfalls, waterfalls, puddles and gorges that abound in Villanuava de la Vera. Among them is the Devil’s Waterfall.
